Argentine nationals and Argentine businesses stand to benefit due to a change in visa policy made by the government of the People’s Republic of China (“PRC or “China), as of 1 June 2025.  China has implemented a one-year unilateral visa-free policy (valid until 31 May 2026) for citizens of Argentina, as well as other Latin American countries, including Brazil, Chile, Peru, and Uruguay.1

Under this policy, travelers holding ordinary passports can enter China without a visa for tourism, business, family visits, or transit purposes, for stays of up to 30 calendar days.

It also places these Latin American nations on par with several European and Asian countries that already benefit from similar arrangements.

WHY THIS MATTERS

The new visa-free policy is important for Argentinian professionals who frequently travel to China as it will save time tied to securing visas (since that will no longer be necessary) and reduce paper-work.  Up through 1 June, frequent travelers have had to submit multiple documents (invitation letters, travel itineraries, proof of funds), and visa processing could take several days or even weeks.  From 1 June, with no visa required, the elimination of pre-travel administrative burdens will facilitate last-minute or urgent business trips.

As per cost reduction, no more visa fees, consular charges, or intermediary agency costs.  Companies with Argentine employees regularly traveling to China may save significantly on administrative and logistical expenses.

With Argentine workers enjoying the same travel privileges as many citizens from Europe and Asia by virtue of this new policy, it represents an opportunity to heighten Argentina’s competitive edge.

Companies with globally mobile employees, particularly those based in Argentina, should engage with their immigration advisers to assess impacts of China’s new visa-free entry policy and appropriate next steps.
