Proposed reduction in tax credit for solar panels and elimination of credit for micro-production of renewable energy
The Ministry of Finance on March 18, 2025, published a that would reduce tax subsidies for installing solar cells.
The proposal would reduce the tax credit for solar panels for private individuals to 15% (from 20%) beginning July 2025 (but not change the current credit cap of a benefit of SEK 50,000 per person annually) and would also eliminate the credit for micro-production of renewable energy from January 2026.
The Ministry explained that initial state aid was crucial for developing the solar power sector, but future policy must be based on market principles. The Ministry acknowledges that gradual phasing will help prevent market disruptions.
