The U.S. Treasury Department today announced that the United States and Taiwan will begin negotiations on a comprehensive agreement to address double taxation issues, with the first round of negotiations expected to take place in the coming weeks.
According to today鈥檚 , the action builds on pending legislation to address those double taxation issues, including the United States-Taiwan Expedited Double-Tax Relief Act approved by the House Ways and Means Committee in November 2023, and the United States-Taiwan Tax Agreement Authorization Act approved by the Senate Finance Committee in July 2023. 聽That legislation is also included in the Tax Relief for American Families and Worker Act, which was passed by the House, but has stalled in the Senate.
