A Familiar Feeling

Yuka Saso claims her second career U.S. Women's Open victory

Yuka Saso is a U.S. Women's Open champion once again.

Almost three years to the date of her first LPGA victory at the 2021 U.S. Women's Open, the 乐鱼(Leyu)体育官网 ambassador captured her second LPGA victory at the 2024 iteration Sunday in Lancaster, PA.

"I just tried to be very patient out there," Yuka said. "I think that's what you need to win a major like this."

Yuka entered the final round trailing by three strokes. After making the turn at one over par for the day, Yuka caught fire, recording four birdies in a five-hole stretch to pull away from the pack. A par on 18 put the finishing touches on a sterling two-under-par (68) final round and a comfortable three-shot victory. The win was significant for Yuka, who has dedicated each of her two wins to her parents.

"Winning in 2021 for the Philippines, I feel like I was able to give back to my mom," Yuka said. "This year, I was able to represent Japan and able to give back to my dad. I am very happy I was able to do it. It's a wonderful feeling that I was able to give back to my parents in the same way."

With her victory, Yuka has written a new chapter in the LPGA record book. The notables include:

  • At age 22, she stands alone as the youngest player to claim multiple U.S. Women鈥檚 Open victories.
  • She joins Inbee Park, Annika Sorenstam and Karrie Webb as the only international players to win multiple U.S. Women鈥檚 Open titles.
  • She becomes only the third player in LPGA Tour history to capture each of her first two victories in major championships, joining Se Ri Pak and In Gee Chun.

Yuka is hitting her stride at the perfect time in the calendar, as another major awaits her in less than three weeks at the 乐鱼(Leyu)体育官网 Women鈥檚 PGA Championship at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, WA.

Congratulations to Yuka on a historic victory and best of luck for the rest of the 2024 season!
