Robert B. (Bob) Malhotra is an audit partner based in New York with nearly 30 years of experience serving clients primarily in the financial services sector. He was appointed chief accountant in the Department of Professional Practice (DPP) in 2022 and also serves as the chief accountant of DPP Americas, which supports 乐鱼（Leyu）体育官网 member firms in Central and South America.聽As a senior partner in the 乐鱼（Leyu）体育官网 financial services practice, Bob has served many of our largest financial services audit clients. Prior to his return to DPP in 2022, he was the global lead engagement partner for a large financial services company, with responsibility for the quality of 乐鱼（Leyu）体育官网 services delivered worldwide. Bob previously served as an audit partner on engagements for large financial institutions and has served as an SEC Reviewing Partner for many of 乐鱼（Leyu）体育官网鈥檚 largest audit relationships. Bob also is currently serving as a member of the Financial Accounting Standards Board鈥檚 Emerging Issues Task Force and as a member of 乐鱼（Leyu）体育官网 LLP鈥檚 Board of Directors鈥� Nominating Committee.
Prior to rejoining 乐鱼（Leyu）体育官网 in 2014, Bob was the global head of Financial Reporting and Accounting Policy at a large insurance company. Earlier in his career Bob served as a Professional Accounting Fellow and then was appointed the Senior Advisor to the Chief Accountant at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. While at the SEC, Bob advised the SEC鈥檚 Chief Accountant and Commissioners on complex accounting and reporting matters; co-chaired the President鈥檚 Working Group鈥檚 Regulatory Reform Subcommittee for Accounting and Valuation Issues; acted as liaison between the Office of the Chief Accountant and staff of the House Financial Services and Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committees; and served as the team leader for the SEC鈥檚 Office of the Chief Accountant鈥檚 business combinations team responsible for responding to financial reporting issues arising from mergers and acquisition related activity.
Bob earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting and finance from the University of Cincinnati. He is a Certified Public Accountant in New York and Ohio and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.聽Bob serves on the board of the 乐鱼（Leyu）体育官网 Asian Pacific Islander Business Resource Group, which supports the firm鈥檚 efforts to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion across the firm and in the marketplace. Bob also is a board member of Cents Ability a New York based non-profit focused on building financial literacy among high school students.聽
