India has made substantial progress towards Atmanirbharta in defence production, which has significantly enhanced overall output and exports. A remarkable development, what strikes me particularly is the MSME sector鈥檚 contribution in transforming the defence manufacturing landscape.

The private sector鈥檚 share in defence production reached 22 per cent in FY24鈥攈ighest in the last eight years.1聽With the Government of India setting a defence production target of USD25 billion and an export target of USD5 billion by 20252, I believe further accelerating growth in the MSME sector will be crucial.
So, what鈥檚 driving this growth? Let鈥檚 take a look. Amidst these global vulnerabilities, India stands at a crossroads of opportunity.
