Springboard Trust
Springboard Trust is a unique charitable trust working within the New Zealand education sector, providing principals with access to bespoke expertise to help enhance strategic leadership capability, expertise that would otherwise not be available within New Zealand schools.
Their belief is that if we help school leaders to be more effective, then improved student outcomes will follow. 乐鱼(Leyu)体育官网 has been supporting Springboard鈥檚 Strategic Leadership for Principals programme (SLPP), a 12-month curriculum to develop robust strategic plans and goals since 2015.
Senior 乐鱼(Leyu)体育官网 people work in a variety of volunteer roles, some as capacity partners for SLPP, coaching and challenging principals through regular strategic planning workshops and one-on-one meetings, others as school principal coaches or programme facilitators. Since we first partnered with Springboard, more than 64 senior leaders at 乐鱼(Leyu)体育官网 have given over 3,000 hours of their time to supporting school leaders. In 2022 we have over 18 senior people in Springboard volunteer roles, as well as people supporting one-off projects.

Our Tauranga people love the opportunity to be part of the school鈥檚 extended whanau.
Edmund Hillary School
Our relationship with the Papakura school stretches back to 2007, when 乐鱼(Leyu)体育官网 joined a City for Auckland initiative to connect corporates with local schools. Many years later the original three year memorandum of agreement has turned into a special and enduring partnership.
Opened by Sir Edmund Hillary in 1963, the growing school has a motto of 鈥楤e Determined, Aim High鈥.
Principal Kataraina Nock says that 鈥渨e are proud to have achieved a five year ERO review that confirms the quality of education and happy and safe learning environment the Board of Trustees and staff provide.鈥 Furthermore, the principal and staff agree that the many benefits offered through the partnership between 乐鱼(Leyu)体育官网 and Edmund Hillary School include:

Hutt Schools Initiative
In September 2014 we joined an initiative with the Hutt City Council to partner with a cluster of schools in the Hutt Valley area. The partnership aims to support some of New Zealand鈥檚 most vulnerable kids by giving them the opportunities and access to services that that vast majority of New Zealander鈥檚 may take for granted.
This is a pioneering opportunity for 乐鱼(Leyu)体育官网 Wellington to make a real difference to those in need and it goes hand in hand with our purpose of Fuelling New Zealand鈥檚 Prosperity. Our relationships with Pomare Primary, Avalon Intermediate, Taita College, St Michaels Primary and Taita Central School are well underway and everyone we involve in this (ten year) project is excited to help, including clients.
During the short time since we established this partnership, we donated 20 used laptops to Pomare Primary and their feedback on just how we can make a difference is clear: "This is a stunning opportunity for us and already there have been positives with regards to 1 to 1 devices for our students. Manaiakalani Education Trust (MET)
Building digital citizens of tomorrow
Living and learning in a digital world is something most of us take for granted 鈥 but for many children and their families, it鈥檚 not that simple. The team at Manaiakalani Education Trust are working to turn that around. By supporting schools in disadvantaged communities, their ultimate goal is to see all New Zealanders become fully enfranchised digital citizens.
Manaiakalani takes a three-pronged approach 鈥 upskilling teachers to teach in the digital space; researching the most effective teaching methods; and providing affordable ways for students to get their own digital device. (As well as offering micro-loans, they also help ensure household connectivity).
As Trust CEO Jenny Oxley explains, it鈥檚 grown from a local community initiative to a nationwide success. 鈥淭he Trust was formed 12 years ago to support schools in the heart of T膩maki Makaurau 鈥 in the suburbs of Glen Innes, Panmure and Pt England. Then a whole bunch of other school communities wanted to do it, and we now have 120 schools right across New Zealand implementing our programmes.鈥
Students that engage with the Manaiakalani programme 鈥 which covers reading, writing and maths 鈥 accelerate their learning at 1.5 times the New Zealand average.
鈥淒ue to circumstances, these students are starting from a lower baseline, so learning in this way helps them catch up faster.鈥
Learning in a digital world also engages kids in a way that wasn鈥檛 possible in an analog environment, says Jenny. 鈥淲hen a child has a learning device, they can learn anytime, anywhere, and at their own pace.
鈥淐hildren are actively encouraged to blog, and when their families and wider audience provide feedback on that, it drives a real excitement in learning. Kids see they have people interested in what they鈥檙e doing at a school, in a way that didn鈥檛 always happen with the old exercise book coming home.鈥
When families and whanau connect with their children鈥檚 learning, it helps to 鈥渄emystify the whole education process鈥, especially for parents who may have had a less positive experience at school themselves.
鈥淓verything we do is about helping to drive quality and pride and achievement in learning.鈥
