Artificial intelligence has become a key prerequisite for competitiveness, innovation and efficiency. This is confirmed by our study . Compared to last year's survey, the relevance of the technology has increased further and this trend is set to continue. For companies, this means that waiting is not an option, as the gap between companies that use AI successfully and those that do not is widening. There is therefore pressure to act if you don't want to fall behind.

Generative AI in the German economy in 2025

How is the German economy already utilising the potential of AI today? We have analysed the key development trends using surveys, interviews and case studies.

The results also show that companies' willingness to invest in the technology is at a high level and continues to grow. Trusted AI - i.e. trustworthy, comprehensible and ethically sound AI - is becoming a decisive success factor, while ethics and AI governance as well as employee enablement have become decisive factors when it comes to exploiting the potential of AI responsibly and sustainably.

The study is based on information from 653 decision-makers from 18 industries who we surveyed on the role of generative AI in their company - and continues our first analysis on the topic from 2024.

These are the most important results of the current survey in concrete figures:

Sales increases expected

69 % of respondents have already set up a strategy for AI.
72 % of companies are planning to increase their investment in technology.
The respondents are primarily hoping for innovations, faster data analyses, automation, new product and market growth opportunities as well as increases in turnover.

Challenges in ethics and fairness

Trusted AI

95 per cent of companies are actively working on the implementation of Trusted AI to ensure ethical, transparent and legally compliant use of the technology. However, only 26 per cent have established a corresponding company-wide strategy.

Employee training

72 per cent feel well or even very well prepared to train their employees in dealing with AI.

Employee enablement as a success factor

64 % of respondents believe that AI implementation will require employee retraining, but will not fundamentally affect the number of jobs.
72 % feel well or even very well prepared to train their employees in dealing with AI.
