Parliament: 鈧�14 million in fines waived for companies with 3 abstentions
Thousands of businesses facing fines of thousands of euros due to the late registration of Ultimate Beneficial Owner (UBO) information in the electronic system received relief on 21 November. Both legislative and executive authorities approved a bill to cancel fines totaling 鈧�14 million.
Additionally, the penalties imposed on companies and their directors for similar violations are reduced. The maximum fine is now capped at 鈧�5,000 per company (down from the current 鈧�20,000) for failing to comply with legal requirements.
Specifically, a fine of 鈧�100 will be imposed for the first day of delay, followed by 鈧�50 for each subsequent day, up to a total of 鈧�5,000.

Road freight transport: 2nd quarter 2024
The Statistical Service announces the release of the latest figures for road freight transport for the second quarter of 2024.
During the period April-June 2024, the total weight of goods transported by road in Cyprus increased by 9,1% compared to the corresponding period of 2023, while the weight of freight transported from and to Cyprus also increased by 9,5%.
During the period January-June 2024, the total weight of goods transported by road in Cyprus increased by 6,3% compared to the corresponding period of 2023, while the weight of freight transported from and to Cyprus also increased by 4,3%.

Price Index of construction materials: October 2024
The Price Index of Construction Materials for October 2024 reached 117,18 units (base year 2021=100), recording a decrease of 0,08% compared to the previous month.
Compared to the same month of the previous year, the index recorded an increase of 0,13%. By main commodity category, increases were recorded in electromechanical products (3,63%), products of wood, insulation materials, chemicals and plastics (1,17%) and mineral products (0,45%), whereas decreases were observed in metallic products (-2,12%) and minerals (-0,02%).
For the period January-October 2024, the index recorded a decrease of 1,01% compared to the corresponding period of 2023.

Tourist arrivals and returns of residents of Cyprus from trips abroad: October 2024
Tourist arrivals
The arrivals of tourists reached 459.106 in October 2024 compared to 426.272 in October 2023, recording an increase of 7,7%.
For the period of January 鈥� October 2024, arrivals of tourists totaled 3.727.196 compared to 3.562.417 in the corresponding period of 2023, recording an increase of 4,6%.
Arrivals from the United Kingdom were the main source of tourism for October 2024, with a share of 36,3% (166.588) of total arrivals, followed by Poland with 8,1% (37.010), Germany with 7,6% (34.822), Israel with 5,2% (24.088) and Sweden with 4,1% (18.713).
For a percentage of 79,9% of tourists, the purpose of their trip in October 2024 was holidays, for 11,9% visit to friends and relatives and for 8,1% business. Respectively, in October 2023, 82,5% of tourists visited Cyprus for holidays, 10,9% visited friends or relatives and 6,4% visited Cyprus for business reasons.
Returns of residents of Cyprus
A total number of 137.095 residents of Cyprus returned from a trip abroad in October 2024 compared to 131.327 in the corresponding month last year, recording an increase of 4,4%.
The main countries from which residents of Cyprus returned in October 2024 were Greece with a share of 35,0% (47.990), the United Kingdom with 8,3% (11.415) and Italy with 7,3% (10.048).
The purpose of travel for the residents of Cyprus in October 2024 was mainly holidays, with a percentage of 66,5%, whilst business reasons held a percentage of 30,8%, studies 1,0% and other reasons 1,7%.

螤畏纬萎:
Conditional approval granted for energy storage subsidy measure
A decision approving under conditions the Subsidy Measure titled 鈥淕rant Scheme for Energy Storage Systems Combined with RES 鈥� 1st Call鈥� was issued by the Commissioner for State Aid Control, Stella Michailidou, on 11 November 2024.
In an announcement, the Commissioner for State Aid Control stated that the competent authority responsible for implementing and managing the measure is the Ministry of Energy, Commerce, and Industry.
The measure will be funded through the Just Transition Mechanism with a total budget of 鈧�35 million. Applications are expected to open in January 2025, and the implementation of the measure must be completed by June 2027.
Eligible beneficiaries include natural and legal persons who will install energy storage systems in existing renewable energy (RES) production units, including self-consumption projects operating under the net billing method.
The objectives of the measure are:
- Supporting the achievement of national renewable energy targets.
- Reducing electricity costs.
- Decreasing the amount of renewable energy wasted.
- Providing ancillary services to the electricity grid.
The decision will be published on the website of the Office of the Commissioner for State Aid Control.
The measure was officially announced in the Republic鈥檚 Official Gazette on 15 November 2024.

Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP): October 2024
The HICP rose by 1,6% between October 2023 and October 2024, and decrease by 0,2% in the month between September 2024 and October 2024. For the period January 鈥� October 2024, the HICP rose by 2,2% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
Compared to October 2023, the categories Recreation and Culture (7,4%), Restaurants and Hotels (5,3%), and Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (5,0%) showed the largest positive changes.
In comparison to September 2024, the largest changes were recorded in the categories Clothing and Footwear (3,1%) and Restaurants and Hotels (-2,0%).
For the period January 鈥� October 2024 compared to the same period last year, the largest change was observed in the category Restaurants and Hotels (5,6%).
The largest change in economic origin, both compared to October 2023 (-10,7%) and the previous month (-1,5%), was observed in the category Energy.

The Index of Production in Construction during the second quarter of 2024 reached 119,80 units (base year 2021=100,00), recording an increase of 4,8% over the second quarter of 2023. For the period January-June 2024, the Index registered an increase of 4,7% compared to the corresponding period of 2023.
The Output Prices Index in Construction for the second quarter of 2024 reached 119,82 units (base year 2021=100,00), recording an increase of 1,1% relative to the first quarter of 2024. Compared to the same quarter of the previous year, the Index increased by 5,3%. For the period January-June 2024, the Index registered an increase of 4,6% over the corresponding period of 2023.
