Deadline for the 2023 Individual Income Tax Return
The Tax Department announces that, following a Decree by the Council of Ministers dated 21 June 2024 (), the deadline for the submission of the 2023 Individual Income Tax Return and the payment of any tax is 31 of October 2024.
Please note that employees, pensioners, and self-employed individuals with a gross total income exceeding 鈧�19,500 in 2023 are required to submit an Individual Income Tax Return for that year.

Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP): September 2024
The HICP rose by 1,6% between September 2023 and September 2024, and decrease by 0,4% in the month between August 2024 and September 2024. For the period January 鈥� September 2024, the HICP rose by 2,3% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
Compared to September 2023, the largest positive changes were noted in Recreation and Culture (7,4%) and Restaurants and Hotels (5,7%).
Compared to August 2024, the largest changes were recorded in categories Clothing and Footwear (5,9%), Transport (-5,3%) and Education (2,6%).
For the period January 鈥� September 2024, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the largest change was noted in Restaurants and Hotels (5,6%).
As regards the economic origin, the largest change, both when compared to the index of September 2023 (-8,0%) as well as when compared to the index of the previous month (-2,9%), was recorded in category Energy.

Tourist arrivals and returns of residents of Cyprus from trips abroad: September 2024
Tourist arrivals
The arrivals of tourists reached 509.463 in September 2024 compared to 487.350 in September 2023, recording an increase of 4,5%.
For the period of January 鈥� September 2024, arrivals of tourists totaled 3.268.090 compared to 3.136.145 in the corresponding period of 2023, recording an increase of 4,2%.
Arrivals from the United Kingdom were the main source of tourism for September 2024, with a share of 35,5% (180.961) of total arrivals, followed by Israel with 10,7% (54.557), Poland with 8,3% (42.295), Germany with 4,8% (24.594) and Sweden with 4,2% (21.609).
For a percentage of 85,1% of tourists, the purpose of their trip in September 2024 was holidays, for 9,6% visit to friends and relatives and for 5,2% business. Respectively, in September 2023, 84,1% of tourists visited Cyprus for holidays, 10,3% visited friends or relatives and 5,5% visited Cyprus for business reasons.
Returns of residents of Cyprus
A total number of 156.153 residents of Cyprus returned from a trip abroad in September 2024 compared to 140.187 in the corresponding month last year, recording an increase of 11,4%.
The main countries from which residents of Cyprus returned in September 2024 were Greece with a share of 35,0% (54.624), the United Kingdom with 7,8% (12.165), Italy with 6,3% (9.860) and Russia with 5,6% (8.719).
The purpose of travel for the residents of Cyprus in September 2024 was mainly holidays, with a percentage of 73,0%, whilst business reasons held a percentage of 23,4%, studies 1,8% and other reasons 1,8%.

The growth rate of the economy in 2023 is positive and is estimated at 2,6% in real terms (volume measures). At current prices, the percentage change in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) amounts to 6,5%.

Price Index of construction materials: September 2024
The Price Index of Construction Materials for September 2024 reached 117,27 units (base year 2021=100), recording a decrease of 0,35% compared to the previous month.
Compared to the same month of the previous year, the index recorded a marginal decrease of 0,02%. By main commodity category, decreases were recorded in metallic products (-2,85%) whereas increases were observed in electromechanical products (3,62%), products of wood, insulation materials, chemicals and plastics (1,06%), mineral products (0,59%) and minerals (0,33%).
For the period January-September 2024, the index recorded a decrease of 1,14% compared to the corresponding period of 2023.

Excessive deficit procedure and annual accounts of General Government 2023
The Statistical Service announces the fiscal results for 2023, which have been audited and verified within the Excessive Deficit Procedure framework of the European Commission.
The results for 2023 indicate a fiscal surplus of 鈧�631,8 mn, which corresponds to 2,0% of GDP and a fiscal debt of 鈧�23.075,9 mn, which corresponds to 73,6% of GDP.
Revenue
In 2023, total revenue increased by 鈧�1.824,1 mn (+15,3%) and amounted to 鈧�13.761,8 mn, compared to 鈧�11.937,7 mn in 2022.
In detail, taxes on production and imports increased by 鈧�408,3 mn (+10,1%) and amounted to 鈧�4.442,4 mn, compared to 鈧�4.034,1 mn in 2022, of which net VAT revenue increased by 鈧�273,1 mn (+10,1%) and amounted to 鈧�2.978,8 mn, compared to 鈧�2.705,7 mn in 2022. Social contributions increased by 鈧�860,7 mn (+24,5%) and amounted to 鈧�4.380,5 mn, compared to 鈧�3.519,8 mn in 2022. Revenue from taxes on income and wealth increased by 鈧�340,7 mn (+11,7%) and amounted to 鈧�3.264,9 mn, compared to 鈧�2.924,2 mn in 2022. Other current transfers increased by 鈧�113,2 mn (+53,4%) and amounted to 鈧�325,2 mn, compared to 鈧�212,0 mn in 2022. Property income receivable increased by 鈧�23,3 mn (+20,4%) and amounted to 鈧�137,5 mn, compared to 鈧�114,2 mn in 2022. Revenue from the sale of goods and services increased by 鈧�12,8 mn (+1,5%) and amounted to 鈧�853,4 mn, compared to 鈧�840,6 mn in 2022. Capital transfers increased by 鈧�65,1 mn (+22,2%) and amounted to 鈧�357,9 mn, compared to 鈧�292,8 mn in 2022.
Expenditure
In 2023, total expenditure increased by 鈧�1.970,1 mn (+17,7%) and amounted to 鈧�13.130,0 mn, from 鈧�11.159,9 mn in 2022.
Specifically, compensation of employees (including imputed social contributions and pensions of civil servants) increased by 鈧�423,6 mn (+13,4%) and amounted to 鈧�3.591,8 mn, compared to 鈧�3.168,2 mn in 2022. Social transfers increased by 鈧�329,3 mn (+7,1%) and amounted to 鈧�4.941,4 mn, compared to 鈧�4.612,1 mn in 2022. Other current expenditure increased by 鈧�520,8 mn (+80,2%) and amounted to 鈧�1.170,2 mn, compared to 鈧�649,4 mn in 2022. Property income payable increased by 鈧�18,7 mn (+4,8%) and amounted to 鈧�408,3 mn, compared to 鈧�389,6 mn in 2022. Subsidies increased by 鈧�25,5 mn (+19,1%) and amounted to 鈧�159,1 mn, compared to 鈧�133,6 mn in 2022. Intermediate consumption increased by 鈧�25,9 mn (+2,0%) and amounted to 鈧�1.301,6 mn, compared to 鈧�1.275,7 mn in 2022.
Total capital expenditure increased by 鈧�626,3 mn (+67,3%) and amounted to 鈧�1.557,6 mn (鈧�977,5 mn gross capital formation and 鈧�580,1 mn other capital expenditure), compared to 鈧�931,3 mn (鈧�713,7 mn gross capital formation and 鈧�217,6 mn other capital expenditure) in 2022.
