Registered unemployed: September 2024
The unemployed persons, registered at the District Labour Offices on the last day of September 2024, reached 8.142 persons. Based on the seasonally adjusted data that show the trend of unemployment, the number of registered unemployed for September 2024 decreased to 10.181 persons in comparison to 10.616 in the previous month.
In comparison with September 2023, a decrease of 1.551 persons or 16,0% was recorded, attributed mainly to the sectors of financial and insurance activities, trade, construction, professional, scientific and technical activities, as well as to the decrease recorded for newcomers in the labour market.

Industrial Turnover Index: July 2024
In July 2024, the Industrial Turnover Index reached 152,7 units (base 2021=100), recording an increase of 6,3% compared to July 2023. For the period January 鈥� July 2024, the index recorded an increase of 2,2% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
In manufacturing, the Industrial Turnover Index for July 2024 reached 142,8 units, recording an increase of 8,4% compared to July 2023. Increases were also recorded in the sectors of mining and quarrying (+25,8%) and water supply and materials recovery (+11,1%). A decrease was noted in the sector of electricity supply (-2,4%).

Fiscal Accounts of General Government: January-August 2024
The preliminary General Government fiscal results, which are prepared by the Statistical Service of Cyprus (CYSTAT) indicate a surplus of 鈧�1.368,4 mn (4,3% of GDP) for the period of January-August 2024, as compared to a surplus of 鈧�898,5 mn (3,0% of GDP) that was recorded during the period of January-August 2023.
Revenue
During the period of January-August 2024, total revenue increased by 鈧�1.073,4 mn (+13,0%) and amounted to 鈧�9.298,9 mn, compared to 鈧�8.225,5 mn in the corresponding period of 2023.
In detail, taxes on production and imports increased by 鈧�275,4 mn (+9,8%) and amounted to 鈧�3.073,3 mn, compared to 鈧�2.797,9 mn in 2023, of which net VAT revenue increased by 鈧�247,2 mn (+13,6%) and amounted to 鈧�2.070,1 mn, compared to 鈧�1.822,9 mn in 2023. Revenue from taxes on income and wealth increased by 鈧�371,7 mn (+17,3%) and amounted to 鈧�2.517,7 mn, compared to 鈧�2.146,0 mn in 2023. Social contributions increased by 鈧�365,7 mn (+15,7%) and amounted to 鈧�2.694,1 mn, compared to 鈧�2.328,4 mn in 2023. Property income increased by 鈧�21,4 mn (+31,1%) and amounted to 鈧�90,3 mn, compared to 鈧�68,9 mn in 2023. Revenue from the sale of goods and services increased by 鈧�143,4 mn (+30,2%) and amounted to 鈧�618,4 mn, compared to 鈧�475,0 mn in 2023.
On the contrary, current transfers decreased by 鈧�71,4 mn (-23,5%) to 鈧�232,9 mn, from 鈧�304,3 mn in 2023. Capital transfers decreased by 鈧�32,8 mn (-31,2%) to 鈧�72,2 mn, from 鈧�105,0 mn in 2023.
Expenditure
During the period of January-August 2024, total expenditure increased by 鈧�603,5 mn (+8,2%) and amounted to 鈧�7.930,5 mn, compared to 鈧�7.327,0 mn in the corresponding period of 2023.

Social benefits increased by 鈧�242,3 mn (+8,4%) and amounted to 鈧�3.132,1 mn, compared to 鈧�2.889,8 mn in 2023. Current transfers increased by 鈧�117,3 mn (+23,6%) and amounted to 鈧�614,9 mn, compared to 鈧�497,6 mn in 2023. Interest payable increased by 鈧�37,0 mn (+14,2%) and amounted to 鈧�298,6 mn, compared to 鈧�261,6 mn in 2023.
The capital account decreased by 鈧�74,3 mn (-12,4%) to 鈧�526,0 mn, from 鈧�600,3 mn in 2023, of which gross capital formation decreased by 鈧�69,4 mn (-13,9%) to 鈧�429,3 mn, from 鈧�498,7 mn in 2023 and other capital expenditure decreased by 鈧�4,9 mn (-4,8%) to 鈧�96,7 mn, from 鈧�101,6 mn in 2023.
On the contrary, subsidies decreased by 鈧�31,2 mn (-26,5%) to 鈧�86,6 mn, from 鈧�117,8 mn in 2023.

Registration of Motor Vehicles: January-September 2024
The Statistical Service announces the publication of the report entitled "Registration of Motor Vehicles" for the period January-September 2024.
螜n September 2024, the total registrations of motor vehicles numbered 4.428, recording a decrease of 3,9% compared to 4.607 in September 2023. Passenger saloon cars registered a fall of 7,5% to 3.442, from 3.722 in September 2023.
The main developments during the period January-September 2024 compared to the corresponding period of 2023 are summarised as follows:
(a) The total registrations of motor vehicles increased by 13,2% to 38.819 in January-September 2024, from 34.280 in January-September 2023.
(b) Passenger saloon cars increased to 30.344 from 27.499 in January-September 2023, recording a rise of 10,3%. Of the total passenger saloon cars, 12.304 or 40,5% were new and 18.040 or 59,5% were used cars. Rental cars in particular recorded a fall of 28,5% to 3.438.
(c) The share of petrol powered passengers鈥� cars to the total of this category of vehicles decreased in January-September 2024 to 49,7% (from 59,3% in the corresponding period of the preceding year) and that of diesel powered cars to 9,9% in 2024 from 10,0% in 2023. On the other hand, the share of electric cars rose from 2,6% in 2023 to 3,6% in 2024 and of hybrid cars from 28,1% to 36,7%.
(d) Motor coaches and buses registered in January-September 2024 decreased to 119, from 266 in the same period of 2023.
(e) Goods conveyance vehicles increased by 33,6% to 4.311 in January-September 2024, compared to 3.266 in January-September 2023. In particular, light goods vehicles increased by 37,4% to 3.454, heavy goods vehicles by 26,6% to 504, road tractors (units of trailers) by 60,4% to 170, while rental vehicles decreased by 12,0% to 183.
(f) Mopeds < 50cc registered in January-September 2024 increased to 603 compared to 230 in the corresponding period of the previous year.
(g) Mechanised cycles > 50cc increased by 10,6% to 2.933 in January-September 2024, compared to 2.651 in the same period of 2023.

Foreign trade statistics: July 2024 (final data) and August 2024 (provisional data)
August 2024, provisional data
Total imports of goods in August 2024 were 鈧�948,6 mn as compared to 鈧�1.243,1 mn in August 2023, recording a decrease of 23,7%. Imports from other EU Member States were 鈧�564,8 mn and from third countries 鈧�383,8 mn, compared to 鈧�692,4 mn and 鈧�550,7 mn respectively in August 2023. Imports in August 2024 include the transfer of economic ownership of vessels and aircraft, with total value of 鈧�38,8 mn as compared to 鈧�246,7 mn in August 2023.
Total exports of goods in August 2024 were 鈧�276,4 mn as compared to 鈧�422,8 mn in August 2023, recording a decrease of 34,6%. Exports to other EU Member States were 鈧�70,0 mn and to third countries 鈧�206,4 mn, compared to 鈧�79,1 mn and 鈧�343,7 mn respectively in August 2023.
Total imports of goods in January鈥揂ugust 2024 amounted to 鈧�7.577,7 mn as compared to 鈧�8.968,7 mn in January鈥揂ugust 2023, recording a decrease of 15,5%. Total exports of goods in January-August 2024 were 鈧�2.589,8 mn compared to 鈧�2.845,2 mn in January-August 2023, registering a decrease of 9,0%. The trade deficit was 鈧�4.987,9 mn in January鈥揂ugust 2024 compared to 鈧�6.123,5 mn in the corresponding period of 2023.
July 2024, final data
Total imports of goods amounted to 鈧�1.056,0 mn in July 2024 as compared to 鈧�1.117,5 mn in July 2023, recording a decrease of 5,5%.
Exports of domestically produced products, including stores and provisions, in July 2024 were 鈧�216,0 mn as compared to 鈧�227,4 mn in July 2023, recording a decrease of 5,0%. Domestic exports of industrial products in July 2024 were 鈧�207,4 mn compared to 鈧�222,6 mn in July 2023, whilst domestic exports of agricultural products in July 2024 were 鈧�7,5 mn compared to 鈧�3,6 mn in July 2023.
Exports of foreign products, including stores and provisions, in July 2024 were 鈧�111,1 mn as compared to 鈧�168,2 mn in July 2023, recording a decrease of 33,9%.
