The legislation providing tax breaks for companies implementing energy upgrades has been passed
The Plenary of the Parliament unanimously and summarily approved an amendment to the Income Tax Law. This amendment grants a deduction for capital expenditures incurred by legal and natural persons engaged in economic activity within the tax years 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026 for the purpose of energy upgrade and energy saving.
Additionally, an amendment proposed by the DISY and DIKO parties was approved with 31 votes in favor and 14 against. This amendment increases the discount from 25% to 33% for capital expenditure incurred in purchasing commercial electric vehicles, buses, and taxis. The aim is to achieve amortisation of the cost over three years instead of four.
It is recalled that the adopted arrangements also aim at:
-It is noted that the adopted arrangements also aim to grant a 7% discount for capital expenditure incurred to improve the energy performance of buildings.
-Granting a 20% discount for capital expenditures incurred for technical energy efficiency systems in buildings, renewable energy systems, as well as for the purchase and installation of batteries.
-Non-inclusion in taxable income of expenses incurred by legal entities for the preparation of an energy saving study.
-Following a proposal by MPs and affected bodies, the provisions of the proposed law included the installation of electric vehicle recharging stations in the eligible investments for the granting of a capital discount.

Announcement of the Registrar of Companies and Intellectual Property for refugee companies -Extension of registration of data in the Register of Beneficial Owners
The Department of the Registrar of Companies and Intellectual Property announces that the deadline for the registration of data in the Register of Beneficial Owners kept by the Department, for a company or other legal entity that was incorporated or registered before 14 of August 1974 and had its registered office or place of business or its entire property in an occupied or inaccessible area and has not been active since then in the free areas and which falls into the category of companies as defined in article 391A of the Companies Law Cap.113 and in Note 2 of Law 149(I)/1999 Special Provision, is extended due to the special nature of these companies, until 30 of September 30 2024.
Finally, it is emphasised that as of 1 of October 2024, non-compliance will result in the imposition of administrative and other sanctions, in accordance with the provisions of the Prevention and Suppression of Money Laundering Activities Law and 螝.螖.螤.112/21, as amended and in force.

Average monthly earnings of employees: 4th quarter 2023
Based on provisional data, the average gross monthly earnings of employees during the fourth quarter of 2023, amounted to 鈧�2.693 compared to 鈧�2.535 during the fourth quarter of 2022, i.e. an increase of 6,2% is observed.
The average gross monthly earnings during the fourth quarter of 2023, seasonally adjusted, are estimated at 鈧�2.402 and compared to the third quarter of 2023 they are increased by 1,6%.
The average gross monthly earnings of male employees during the fourth quarter of 2023 are estimated at 鈧�2.884 and of female employees at 鈧�2.452. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2022, the average gross monthly earnings of male and female employees recorded an increase of 6,7% and 5,5% respectively.

Monetary Financial Institutions (MFIs) Deposits and Loans Statistics
The Central Bank of Cyprus has today released the MFIs deposits and loans statistics for the reference month of February 2024, which are included in the March 2024 edition of Monetary and Financial Statistics.
Total deposits in February 2024 recorded a net increase1 of 鈧�65,4 million, compared with a net decrease of 鈧�366,0 million in January 2024. The annual growth rate of total deposits stood at 0,3%, compared with 0,8% in January 2024. The outstanding amount of total deposits reached 鈧�52,0 billion in February 2024.
Deposits of Cyprus residents exhibited an increase of 鈧�101,8 million. More analytically, households鈥� deposits increased by 鈧�41,2 million, while deposits of non-financial corporations recorded a decrease of 鈧�63,0 million. Deposits of the remaining domestic sectors2 exhibited a total increase of 鈧�123,7 million.
Total loans in February 2024 recorded a net increase of 鈧�348,9 million, compared with a net decrease of 鈧�122,9 million in January 2024. The annual growth rate of total loans stood at 1,5%, compared with 0,4% in January 2024. The outstanding amount of total loans reached 鈧�25,0 billion in February 2024.
Loans to Cyprus residents exhibited an increase of 鈧�77,9 million. More analytically, loans to households decreased by 鈧�3,9 million, while loans to non-financial corporations recorded an increase of 鈧�60,6 million. Loans to the remaining domestic sectors2 exhibited a total increase of 鈧�21,2 million.

Turnover Index of Retail Trade except of motor vehicles: January and February 2024
The Turnover Value Index of Retail Trade for February 2024 increased by 5,8% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year. For the same month, the Turnover Volume Index of Retail Trade increased by 5,1% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year.
For the period January-February 2024, the Value Index is estimated to have recorded an increase of 5,4% and the Volume Index an increase of 4,7% compared to the same period of 2023.

According to preliminary estimate of the Statistical Service, the HPI for the fourth quarter of 2023 amounts to 109,95 units. Compared to the third quarter of 2023, the HPI decreased by 0,6% while compared to the Index of the corresponding quarter of 2022, the Index increased by 1,6%.

Registered unemployed: March 2024
The unemployed persons, registered at the District Labour Offices on the last day of March 2024, reached 12.277 persons. Based on the seasonally adjusted data that show the trend of unemployment, the number of registered unemployed for March 2024 decreased to 11.476 persons in comparison to 11.614 in the previous month.
In comparison with March 2023, a decrease of 1.920 persons or 13,5% was recorded, attributed mainly to the sectors of financial and insurance activities, construction, trade, accommodation and food service activities, as well as to the decrease recorded for newcomers in the labour market.

Based on the results of the Passengers Survey carried out by the Statistical Service, revenue from tourism reached 鈧�45,2 mn in January 2024 compared to 鈧�45,6 mn in the corresponding month of the previous year, recording a decrease of 0,9%.
Expenditure analysis
The average expenditure per person was 鈧�513,52 in January 2024 compared to 鈧�503,83 in January 2023, recording an increase of 1,9%.
Tourists from the United Kingdom (the largest tourist market with 18,6% of the total tourists in January 2024) spent on average 鈧�52,73 per day, while tourists from Poland (the second largest market during the specific month with 18,2% of the total tourists) spent on average 鈧�67,90. Tourists from Greece (the third largest market with 11,8%), spent on average 鈧�40,85 per day.

Consumer Price Index (CPI): March 2024
In March 2024, the Consumer Price Index increased by 0,48 units and reached 115,41 units compared to 114,93 units in February 2024. In March 2024, the inflation increased by 1,2%.
For the period January-March 2024, the CPI increased by 1,6% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
As regards the economic origin, Electricity had the largest change when compared both to the index of March 2023 (-7,9%) and to the index of the previous month (-3,7%).
Analysis of percentage changes
Compared to March 2023, the largest change was monitored in category Restaurants and Hotels (5,9%).
In comparison to the CPI of the previous month, the largest change was noted in Clothing and Footwear (5,8%).
For the period January鈥揗arch 2024, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the largest changes were recorded in Restaurants and Hotels (5,9%) and Miscellaneous Goods and Services (3,7%).
Analysis of effects in units
Compared to the Index of March 2023 the categories Restaurants and Hotels (0,59), Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (0,38) and Miscellaneous Goods and Services (0,33) had the largest positive effect on the change of the CPI.
The largest effect on the change of the CPI compared to the previous month was recorded in Clothing and Footwear (0,41).
Catering services (0,58) and Electricity (-0,46) had the most notable effect on the change of the CPI of March 2024 compared to March 2023.
Finally, Clothing (0,29) had the largest effect on the change of the CPI of March 2024 compared to the previous month.
